Tennis 'Dogs Win All-Conference Awards

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --- The Mountain West announced its 2012-13 All-Conference team and individual awards for men's and women's tennis this evening, as selected by the league's head coaches. Freshman Rana Sherif Ahmed was the top winner for the 'Dogs taking home three awards including the MW Freshman of the Year.

For the ladies, in addition to the Freshman of the Year nod, Ahmed was named to the All-Mountain West Singles Team after compiling a 9-12 on the season at the No. 1 singles position, including a 3-5 mark in MW play. She and senior doubles partner Melissa McQueen were named to the All-Mountain West Doubles Team following the regular season during which they were 13-4 overall, 6-2 in Conference action.

The women's tennis team begins action in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West tournament tomorrow at 2 p.m. MT versus Wyoming.

On the men's side, sophomore Reid deLaubenfels earned a spot on the All-Mountain West Singles Team as he spent most of the season at the top spot and finished the year with a 16-18 overall record.

The men's tennis team's season ended this morning as the 'Dogs fell to New Mexico in the quarterfinals of the MW tournament.
