COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - In a marathon four-hour match, No. 6 Wyoming knocked off No. 3 Fresno State to conclude an exciting day of action Friday in the 2013 Mountain West Women's Tennis Championship quarterfinals at the Air Force Academy Tennis Facility.

The contest between the Cowgirls (11-11) and Bulldogs (14-8) came down to the No. 2 singles match, where Alexandra Kovacs took down the 2012-13 MW Women's Tennis Freshman of the Year, Rana Sherif Ahmed in three sets, 7-5, 5-7, 7-5.

Wyoming won the doubles point to open the match. Simona Syncova won at No. 3 singles over Sophie Watts, 4-6, 7-6, 6-2 and Veronica Popovici slipped past Fresno State's Aishwarya Agrawal, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.

In the first match of the afternoon session, No. 2 UNLV dispatched of host and No. 7 seed Air Force 4-1. The Rebels (17-7) will take on the Cowgirls in the semifinals at 10 a.m. MT.

The Rebels lost the doubles point to the Falcons, but won four straight singles matches to claim the victory. The Falcons finish the year at 13-11.

The 2012-13 MW Women's Tennis Player of the Year, Aleksandra Josifoska, closed out the match with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Christine Molina. Lucia Batta earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Tiffany Tran at No. 2 singles and Iren Kotseva won her No. 6 contest against Anastasia Hueffner, 6-1, 6-4. At No. 3 singles, Nives Pavlovic closed out Hannah Dake, 6-4, 6-4.

Top-seeded San Diego State advanced to Saturday's semifinals with a 4-0 victory over No. 9 Colorado State in the morning session.

The Aztecs (21-4) are ranked 39th nationally and have now won 15 straight matches, while the Rams finish the year with a 5-16 record.

San Diego State senior Julia Wais secured the winning point with her 6-1, 7-5 victory over Colorado State freshman Abby Stevens at No. 1 singles. Alicia Aguilar won at No. 2 singles over Natalie Heffron, 6-4, 6-2 and Kristin Buth topped Adriana Wojakowska at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-1. The Aztecs won the doubles point by claiming the No. 2 and 3 matches.

Moving on to play San Diego State in the semifinals is No. 4 Nevada, which defeated No. 5 Boise State 4-2 in the second quarterfinal contest. The semifinal tilt begins at 10 a.m. MT.

The Wolf Pack (12-6) lost the doubles point to the Broncos (13-10) but won four singles matches to claim the victory. Nevada's Michelle Okhremchuk rallied from a set down to top Marlena Pietzuch in three sets at No. 1 singles, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. That point sealed the victory for the Wolf Pack.

Emma Verberne bested Boise State's Sandy Vo in straight sets at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-4, while Sophie Stevens zipped past Morgan Basil, 6-1, 6-3. At No. 5 singles, Juliette Legendre claimed a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Sammie Watson.

Saturday will also see the 2013 MW Men's Tennis Championship resume with semifinal play. Top-seeded San Diego State (18-7) takes on No. 4 New Mexico (13-12) and No. 2 Boise State (18-9) faces No. 3 UNLV (17-6). Both matches are scheduled for a 2 p.m. MT start time.
