Lance Wilhelm and Grant Taylor Named All-Conference

April 26, 2012

Junior Lance Wilhelm and freshman Grant Taylor were named to the all-Mountain West men's tennis team Thursday night at the conference's banquet in San Diego, Calif. Wilhelm was selected for singles and paired with Taylor for an all-conference doubles tandem. They are the first Falcons to be named all-conference since Robby Alexander in 2007.

Wilhelm is 22-11 overall in singles and 15-8 at the No. 1 position this season. He posted a 5-5 record against regionally-ranked opponents and was 2-3 against league foes. Meanwhile, he and Taylor are 17-16 overall in doubles and 13-10 at the No. 1 spot. They also posted a 2-3 mark against Mountain West opponents and Taylor is the first Air Force freshman to earn all-league honors since Shannon Buck in 2003.

San Diego State senior Javier Pulgar was named Player of the Year, while TCU's Nick Chappell earned MW Freshman of the Year honors. One of Wilhelm's conference wins this season was a 6-4, 7-6(7) victory over Pulgar.

The Falcons battle New Mexico in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Championships Friday morning at 10 a.m. (PT) in San Diego.
