URBANA, Ill. - Yannick Hanfmann of USC defeated Boise State's Andy Bettles, 6-2, 6-4 in the first round of the NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Singles Championship on Wednesday at the Akins Tennis Center in Urbana, Ill.

Hanfmann controlled the first set starting with the first game, breaking Bettles' serve and holding his own to go up 2-0. Hanfmann would stretch the lead late in the set and go on to win 6-2.

In the second set, the two held serve until the fifth game when Hanfmann broke Bettles to take a 3-2 lead. That break would be enough as Bettles could not find one of his own and dropped the set 6-4.

Bettles, a junior, finished with a 30-10 overall record including a 23-6 dual mark playing at the No. 1 spot for the Broncos. He was the 11th player in Boise State history to qualify for the Singles Championship.
