July 26, 2012
GODFREY, Ill. – TCU sophomore Nick Chappell continued his winning ways Thursday with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Costin Paval at the Lewis and Clark Community College USTA Men’s Futures Tennis Tournament.
Paval, a senior at the University of Oklahoma, was the Big 12 Player of the Year in 2011 and earned All-America honors after finishing the season ranked No. 15 in the ITA singles rankings. On March 25, Paval better Chappell, 6-1, 6-2.
The win is Chappell’s second in the main draw of the event and earns him another ATP point toward world singles rankings. Paval has been ranked as high as No. 907 in the world in his career.
Chappell, the Mountain West Freshman of the Year a year ago after playing all of his matches in the spring at the No. 1 position, advances to the quarterfinals of the Futures event.
Including the qualifying draw, Chappell has won five-straight matches at the Lewis and Clark Community College USTA Men’s Futures Tennis Tournament. Of those five, only his match in the first round of the main draw went to three sets.
