Men's Tennis Hosting Final Fall Action

Oct. 30, 2012

LAS VEGAS ( - The UNLV men's tennis team will close out its fall season by hosting the annual Larry Easley Memorial Classic starting Friday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on campus.

Players from six other programs will be competing in the individual event. Opponents scheduled to send competitors are Arkansas, Arizona, Oklahoma State, SMU, NAU and Seminole State College located in Seminole, Okla.

The tournament kicks off at 9 a.m. PT Friday and will be made up of one flight of doubles and two flights of singles along with consolation play in both. Admission is free of charge.

Auburn's Andreas Mies won last year's Flight One singles title while the Tigers also took the doubles championship as Alex Stamchev and Daniel Cochrane prevailed.

The annual event was renamed in 2010 in honor of UNLV Hall of Famer Larry Easley, who passed away from illness in 2005 at the age of 57. Easley coached the UNLV men's tennis team longer than anyone in history and produced sometimes-spectacular results over his dozen seasons from 1993-2002, including producing five All-Americans and two NCAA individual champions.
