LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team (19-6 overall, 8-4 MW) lost their second straight game as they fell 57-51 to the San Diego State Aztecs (20-5 overall, 11-1 MW) on Wednesday night in Laramie. The loss snaps an 11-game home winning streak for the Cowgirls that dated back to the end of last season.
"I asked the team to give ourselves a chance in the final four minutes," said head coach Joe Legerski. "The effort that they gave makes you proud. They went out competed for 40 minutes. We got out to a tremendous start, but you know that you can't maintain that type of emotion and energy. San Diego State showed the quality team they are with coming back. After the first 12 minutes of the game, the last 28 was back and forth. It was a tremendous basketball game, neither team would give in and stars made big plays on both ends. We kept getting the ball to Chaundra down low and she kept responding. Kaitlyn also gave us a tremendous effort. We asked her to bring the ball down the court, score some points and guard the best player. We came up a little short, but I'm proud of this team and what they showed tonight."
Two Cowgirls finished the night in double-figures led by senior Chaundra Sewell. She finished with a team high 21 points along with seven rebounds in her 40 minutes of play. Kaitlyn Mileto recorded 11 points followed by Ashley Sickles with seven points and a team high ten rebounds. Wyoming shot 19-54 (.352) from the field and 10-13 (.769) from the charity stripe.
