Air Force Hosts Utah Valley to Close Out Non-Conference Slate

The Air Force women's basketball team closes out its non-conference slate this week, Jan. 2, when it hosts Utah Valley in a 2:00 p.m. contest.

LAST TIME OUT...
Following a 16-day layoff, the Falcons dropped a pair of contests at the Cyclone Challenge, falling to host Iowa State, 83-35, and Penn, 61-39.
Freshman Madeleine Philpot was the lone Air Force player to score in double figures against the Cyclones, registering a career-high 10 points, while junior Cherae Medina led the Falcons against Penn with 10 points. Senior Alicia Leipprandt was the Falcons' second-leading scorer in both games, finishing with nine points in each of the contests.
SCOUTING THE FALCONS...
Air Force enters this week's game with a 1-11 overall record, including a 1-4 mark in home contests.
Senior Alicia Leipprandt is the Falcons' leading scorer with 11.8 points per contest, while classmate Dymond James is the team's next best scorer with 8.7 ppg. Senior Katie Hilbig is Air Force's leading rebounder with 6.4 boards per game, followed closely by James with 6.3 rebounds per contest. Meanwhile, junior Cherae Medina leads the Falcons with 2.8 assists per game.
SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES...
Utah Valley enters this week's contest with a 4-11 overall contest, following a 66-49 road loss to Southern Utah.
Sammie Jensen averages a double-double to lead the Wolverines with 16.9 points and 12.6 rebounds per contest. Tina Doughty is next on the team with 7.9 points per game, while Kaycee Mansfield adds 7.8 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.
ALICIA ON HER WAY TO 1000...
Senior Alicia Leipprandt now sits at 992 points for her career, a mark which ranks fourth among Division I players at the Academy and 13th all-time in program history. Leipprandt is just eighth points away from becoming just the fourth Division I player in Air Force history to surpass 1,000 career points and the 13th all-time at the Academy.
MADELEINE GETS TO DOUBLE DIGITS...
Freshman Madeleine Philpot was the Falcons' leading scorer against Iowa State on Saturday, registering a career-best 10 points. Philpot shot 4-of-6 from the field, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc, to lead Air Force in just 12 minutes of action.
Philpot also set several career best marks versus Penn on Sunday, recording five rebounds, three assists and three steals, leading the team in all three categories.
FREE THROW WOES...
In each of its games at the Cyclone Challenge, Air Force was unable to gain points at the charity stripe, scoring just two free throws in each game.
Against Iowa State, Air Force was just 2-of-4 from the free throw line, as the Cyclones were whistled for just five fouls in the game. Meanwhile, the Falcons connected on just 2-of-9 foul shots (a season-low 22.2 percent) versus Penn. All four made free throws on the weekend were scored by senior Alicia Leipprandt.
TAKING CARE OF THE BALL...
While the Falcons struggled offensively against Iowa State, Air Force committed just 16 turnovers versus the Cyclones, marking a new season low.
The Falcons have a week off before opening their conference slate, as they visit Mountain West newcomer Nevada on Wednesday, Jan. 9.
