FORT COLLINS, Colo. – First-year coach Ryun Williams and his Colorado State women’s basketball team have one more nonconference test before beginning Mountain West play in just more than a week.

Williams, having come to CSU last spring after a successful career at the University of South Dakota, knows Friday night’s game is a critical test for the Rams, who begin conference play Jan. 13 by playing host to San Diego State in Moby Arena at 2 p.m.

Friday night, the Rams entertain South Dakota Mines at 7 p.m.  Colorado State enters the game 3-9, while South Dakota Mines is 9-5.

“It’s great to be back in Moby after a long trip to New York City,” said Williams.

“South Dakota Mines has our full attention.  Playing well and getting a win is needed headed into the MW season.  I thought our team performed and competed very well last time out against Fordham and we need to carry over the same intensity and execution against the Hardrockers.”

The Rams are back home for the first time since a two-point loss to Denver Dec. 20, and Williams knows the return to Moby Arena will be an asset for his team.

Junior forward Sam Martin and freshman guard Caitlin Duffy lead the Rams in scoring, both averaging double figures.  Martin, who has started all 12 games, leads the team by scoring 10.5 points per game, while Duffy, who has started six of the 10 games in which she has played, is scoring 10.3 points per game.  Martin also leads the team in rebounding, 6.3 per game.
