SDSU Women's Basketball Press Conference Quotes

San Diego State head coach Beth Burns

Opening statement:
"I think we've got to get better. We've got to improve, we've got to defend. We've got to shake some things up. We can't stay (at) status quo and expect to just make it get better. So we're doing some different things, using some different people, just trying to get as competitive as we can. I think Fresno State had five or six road losses, then they came in here and were 6-of-12 (3-pointers) in the first half. I told my team, `Look, we have the banner. (Fresno State) wants the banner.' You're going to get their best shot. It is what it is, but don't count us out.

On Colorado State:
"They might have the best scoring post player in our conference. She's a great low-block player. She's just big, strong powerful and long. And then the `X' factor is she's their best 3-point shooter. (Colorado State's) offense kind of runs through her. They'll probably have four people in the paint, because we've got to get better and have the discipline not to shoot too quickly. Anytime you go to higher elevation, you've got to play better, and I'm not happy about the way we're playing at sea level. So we've got to pick it up. We're going to play more (players), so maybe that will energize us."

On Fresno State's shooting:
"It's a guard's game. Their point guard totally dominated the game. They got a double figure lead, and then she dribbled around in circles. I credit them. They came in with high energy, and then they exploited every mistake we made. And then, you've got to have people who make shots. Obviously we have to do different things"

On if she was surprised at the loss to Fresno State:
"I'm not surprised because I know how good these teams are offensively. Our calling card we would like to be defensively, but it is not."
