New Mexico (9-7) is among the top 10 women's basketball programs in home court advantage, currently sitting at No. 8 with a 6,284 average through the first 10 home games of the season. Wyoming (13-4) ranks 30th with a home attendance average of 3,370, while MW newcomer Fresno State (11-6) comes in at 45th with a 2,384 average.
Other Notes from Around the Mountain West
Teams Continue to Battle for Foothold in Top Spot ... Fresno State and San Diego State continue to have a hold on the top two spots in the MW standings at 3-1, while Boise State is nipping at their heels at 2-1 after two weeks of Conference play ... Fresno State travels to Colorado State on Sunday, Jan. 27 for a televised game on CBS Sports Network (2 p.m. MT; DirecTV 613). Rich Cellini and Tammy Blackburn will call the action from Moby Arena.
Seeing Triple-Double ... San Diego State senior Chelsea Hopkins is one of two players in the nation to have multiple triple-doubles this season (2). Hopkins posted 22 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists against SMU on Dec. 28 before her 22 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists performance on Jan. 16 at UNLV. Shalonda Winton of Cleveland State also has two triple-doubles this season. Hopkins is the only MW player to record multiple triple-doubles in the same season and matched TCU's Helena Sverrisdottir for most in a MW career.
Quick Hits ... Air Force junior Cherea Medina scored a career-best 23 points at BSU on Jan. 19. Medina also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out three assists, while playing all but 24 seconds of the game ... Boise State senior Lauren Lenhardt currently has 1,145 career points and ranks 10th on the Broncos' all-time scoring list. She needs 18 points to move into ninth place ... Colorado State's Sam Martin is on pace to become the second Ram to reach the 1,000-point career in her junior season. Martin has 968 points going into Wednesday's game against New Mexico ... Fresno State puts its 18-game home winning streak on the line Wednesday night against Boise State. The streak ranks fifth in the nation. The Bulldogs are 33-5 in the month of January since 2009 ... Nevada's bench out-scored Fresno State's subs, 14-10 on Jan. 19, led by sophomore Mimi Mungedi's eight points in 13 minutes of reserve play ... New Mexico travels to Colorado State on Wednesday for the 66th meeting in the series that dates back to 1975. The teams split the 2011-12 series ... San Diego State senior Chelsea Hopkins has posted double-digit assists in five of her last eight outings ... UNLV tied a school record with 12 three-pointers in its win over CSU on Jan. 20. It is the fifth time the Lady Rebels have reached the mark, doubling its previous season high. Briana Charles, a sophomore, hit the first trey of her career in the game, ending up a perfect 4-of-4 from beyond the arc ... Wyoming is 9-0 when scoring 70 or more points this season.
