Durbin Picks Up Capital One Academic All-District Honors
Feb. 2, 2012
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The 2012 Capital One Academic All-District ® Women’s Basketball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One became the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA’s Academic All-America teams programs in 2011.
Amongst these honorees is New Mexico’s Caroline Durbin, a junior guard out of Austin, Texas. Durbin’s 4.16 grade point average in business with a concentration in finance and accounting earned her a spot on the District VII first team. With this honor, Durbin becomes the first player to be named academic all-district since Julie Briody in 2007.
Durbin is currently leading the Lobos in scoring with an average of 14.9 points per game, a statistic that ranks fifth in the Mountain West. She leads the conference with a three-point field goal percentage of .515, having made 34 threes in 66 attempts. Her .515 accuracy currently ranks the highest in UNM history for a single season, and her career 3FG% of .382 currently holds the no. 3 spot in New Mexico record books.
This season, Durbin has scored in double figures in 19 of New Mexico’s 21 contests and has paced the Lobo offense in 13 games. She has logged four 20-point performances including recording a new career high of 29 points against Wyoming on Jan. 14. Durbin is maintaining a .477 accuracy from the floor, ranking first on the team and third in the MW. She averages four rebounds per game and is tied in first place on the team with 46 assists.
Durbin has started 19 games this season and averages 33.8 minutes per game, more than doubling her time on the floor from last season and putting her at second place in the MW in minutes played.
She was also named to the all-tournament team after putting up 38 points and 13 rebounds as the Lobos took second place in their own Thanksgiving Tournament.
Over the course of her career, Durbin has started 33 contests in a Lobo jersey, making 69 appearances and shooting at a career average of over 40 percent (.418) from the floor. She has 491 career points, 143 rebounds, 17 blocks and 29 steals to her credit.
First-team Academic All-District ® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
The Lobos take on Boise State next in The Pit on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. UNM will be hosting Youth Day on Saturday, which means that all youth single game purchasers between the ages of 2-18 will receive a $2 discounted ticket, valid in all bench seating.
