Women's Basketball To Play 4Kay Saturday vs. UNLV
Feb. 7, 2012
The San Diego State women's basketball team will "Play 4Kay" this Saturday when the Aztecs take on visiting UNLV beginning at 2 p.m. PT at Viejas Arena. Play 4Kay, formerly known as the WBCA Pink Zone, began in 2007 as an initiative to raise breast cancer awareness and funds for research on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.
SDSU is joining over 1,000 schools in the Play 4Kay initiative, which was renamed this year to keep the story and legacy of former North Carolina State head coach Kay Yow, who lost her fight with breast cancer in January 2009, at the forefront. Aztec head coach Beth Burns served as an assistant coach under Yow at NC State from 1988-89.
As a part of this Saturday's game, San Diego State will be wearing its pink uniforms, which were made possible by long-time Aztec basketball supporter, Jane Haggerty, in honor of her late husband, Robert.
The first 500 fans in attendance on Saturday will receive a free Aztec Play 4Kay t-shirt. Donations will be accepted on the arena concourse on game day for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund or can be made online any time via www.Play4Kay.org.
As a special promotion for Saturday's contest, anyone wearing pink to the game will receive a general admission ticket for just $4. Tickets can be purchased in advance online at www.goaztecs.com, over the phone by calling 619-283-7378, or by visiting the Aztec Ticket Office at Qualcomm Stadium's Window "E." The ticket office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
