Lady Rebels Ready For Lobo Challenge
Feb. 17, 2012
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -
After posting its first season sweep of a conference opponent other than Air Force in five years thanks to their Wednesday night win over TCU, the UNLV women's basketball team looks for a second sweep in a four-day period when it hosts New Mexico on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 pm. The contest is being played in the Thomas & Mack Center, and will be televised nationally by The Mtn. All fans wearing pink to the game will receive $1 admission.
Saturday’s game is also the breast cancer awareness game for UNLV this season, known as Play4Kay this year, named after the legendary former NC State coach Kay Yow. The Lady Rebels will be dressed in special pink jerseys for the contest.
A sweep over New Mexico would be program’s first against the Lobos since the 2001-02 season. UNLV won the first matchup, 64-50, in the Pit on Jan. 21.
Senior forward Jamie Smith is close to several UNLV career records. With a start on Saturday, she will tie for the all-time mark (119), she is 16 minutes away from tying for most minutes ever by a Lady Rebel (3,963), and is 20 rebounds away from the school career record (1,124).
