Cowgirl Basketball Hosts San Diego State In Home Finale

The Wyoming basketball team will play their final home game of the regular season on Tuesday, Feb. 21, as they host the San Diego State Aztecs. The game is set for 6:00 p.m. in the Arena Auditorium. Live stats can be followed or audio can be found on www.wyomingathletics.com. The game will also be broadcast on The Mountain Sports Network which is Channel 412 in Laramie.
Wyoming is currently 11-13 overall and 7-4 in Mountain West play after a four point overtime win against the Colorado State Rams on Saturday afternoon. The Cowgirls are led by Chaundra Sewell who is averaging a team high 13.5 points and 8.7 rebounds. Freshman Kayla Woodward follows with 12.5 points and 5.8 rebounds, while junior Ashley Sickles is adding 12.0 points plus 6.2 rebounds per game. As a team, they are shooting 502-1262 (.398) from the field and 115-401 (.287) from beyond the arc.
Sickles currently ranks fifth in minutes played, ninth in blocked shots and rebounding and 13th in scoring. Sewell is among the Top 15 in points, rebounds, assists, blocked shots and field goal percentage. In league games, Woodward is third in scoring and three-point field goal percentage, fourth in field goal percentage and rebounding, fifth in minutes played, eighth in steals and three point field goals made and 12th in assists. She has also recorded double-figures in 10 of 11 games during conference action as well.
SDSU is currently 20-5 overall and 10-1 in the Mountain West. Courtney Clements is averaging a team high 16.5 points along with 5.2 rebounds. Chelsea Hopkins follows with 9.8 points while Chaires Culberson averages a team high 5.8 rebounds. They return two starters and eight letterwinners to a team that went 12-17 overall and 6-10 in the MW.
This is the 44th meeting between the two teams. Wyoming leads the series 24-19. The last time the two teams met was January 24, 2012 as the Aztecs defeated the Cowgirls, 56-45, in San Diego. SDSU is coached by Beth Burns who is in her 15th season with the program.
