March 4, 2013
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State's Courtney Clements (Long Beach, Calif.) has been named Mountain West Women's Basketball co-Player of the Week for her performance in the Aztecs' victory over New Mexico on Feb. 27, the league office announced Monday. With her award, the SDSU senior earned MW weekly honors for the third time this season and sixth of her career.
Clements led the Aztecs to a 72-44 win over the Lobos and a share of the MW regular-season championship in SDSU's lone game of the week. The 6-0 guard tied three career highs with 29 points, 12 field goals and four steals, while shooting 52.2 percent (12-23) from the floor. She also sank 5-of-6 free throws (.833), pulled down eight rebounds and dished out two assists.
With her effort, Clements moved into eighth place on the Aztecs' all-time scoring list with 1,364 points and now ranks 11th in school history with 520 field goals in an SDSU uniform. In addition, she surpassed the 20-point plateau for the 12th time this year and 27th in her career.
For the season, Clements is currently second in the MW with 17.6 points per game and ranks among the conference leaders in 3-point field goals made (3rd - 2.1/gm), 3-point field goal percentage (4th - (.382)) and steals (9th - 1.7/gm).
Clements' recognition marks the seventh MW weekly award for the Aztecs this season after fellow classmate Chelsea Hopkins earned the same distinction on four previous occasions.
SDSU, which picked up 13 votes in the Associated Press rankings released Monday, looks to secure its second consecutive outright MW regular-season title when it travels to the Air Force Academy on Wednesday, March 6, starting at 7 p.m. MT (6 p.m. PT).
