Lady Rebels Ready For The Gaels

March 14, 2012

Thanks to its first-ever top-two finish in the Mountain West, the UNLV Lady Rebels earned a bid to this year’s Postseason WNIT, and will open up first round play on Thursday night against Saint Mary’s in Moraga, Calif., with a 7 pm tip. A live, free webcast of the game will be available on the Saint Mary's website.

UNLV, which at 22-9 has its best record in eight years, is playing in the postseason for the first time in six years, and are making its ninth all-time appearance in the WNIT. UNLV is 9-10 all-time in the WNIT, which includes a runner-up finish in the 2004 tournament.

UNLV has played in the current format of the WNIT five times, and is 2-5 in road games in those tournaments, winning a first-round game in 2001, and a semifinal contest in 2004. The Lady Rebels lost on the road in the first round in 2003, 2005 and 2006.

Thursday’s game features a Saint Mary’s team that has the top rebounding margin in the WNIT field at +9.5, but also the worst turnover margin at -5.3.
