SDSU's Courtney Clements Named WBCA All-Region

March 15, 2012

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State junior guard Courtney Clements (Long Beach, Calif.) has been named one of 52 all-region nominees for the 2012 WBCA Division I Coaches' All-America Team, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced Thursday. Clements is among just four players selected in Region 7, which includes teams in the Mountain West, Big Sky and Western Athletic Conferences.

Clements was named the MW Player of the Year, becoming the first Aztec to earn the award in the conference's 13-year history. She leads the league in scoring with 17.4 points per game and also ranked first in MW-only outings with a 17.9 average. The first-team all-conference pick has scored 20 or more points 13 times this season, had at least 17 in 20 contests and hasn't been held to less than 10 points in consecutive outings in 2011-12. She also was tops in the Mountain West in free-throw shooting, knocking down 40 of 42 vs. league foes (95.2 percent).

Clements earned a spot on last week's MW championship all-tournament team after leading the field with an 18.7 scoring average in the three games, highlighted by a double-double in the opener vs. Air Force and a 22-point performance in the semifinals vs. Wyoming.

The WBCA selection committee will review all 52 regional candidates and cut the list to 40 finalists on March 19. The 40 finalists will all be in the running for selection to the 10-member WBCA Division I Coaches' All-America Team.

Clements and the Aztecs will face LSU in the first round of the NCAA tournament this Sunday at the Maravich Center in Baton Rouge, La., beginning at 6:45 p.m. CT/ 4:45 p.m. PT, as SDSU makes its third postseason appearance in the last four years.
