Courtney Clements to Join Atlanta Dream's Training Camp
May 1, 2013
ATLANTA - Former San Diego State star Courtney Clements (Long Beach, Calif.) signed a training camp contract with the Atlanta Dream of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA), the club announced Wednesday. The 6-foot guard will have the opportunity to compete for one of 11 roster spots when the Dream opens their training camp on Sunday, May 5.
Clements garnered honorable mention All-America accolades and first-team all-Mountain West distinction in each of the past two seasons, finishing with 1,495 points in an Aztec uniform, which ranks fifth in program history. She averaged a team-best 17.9 points per game during the 2012-13 campaign, which ranked second in the conference, and posted double-digit scoring totals in 32 of 34 games, surpassing the 20-point plateau on 14 occasions. Clements, the 2011-12 MW Player of the Year, also finished second in the league last season in 3-point field goals made (2.3/gm), fifth in 3-point percentage (.379) and ninth in steals (1.6/gm).
Under the direction of second-year head coach Fred Williams, Atlanta returns four starters from last season's club that finished third in the WNBA's Eastern Conference with a 19-15 record, before suffering a first-round playoff defeat at the hands of the Indiana Fever. The Dream advanced to the championship finals in 2010 and 2011, but came up short both times, falling to the Seattle Storm and Minnesota Lynx, respectively.
Atlanta must finalize its roster by May 23, before opening its 2013 regular-season slate on Saturday, May 25 at home against the Tulsa Shock.
