Keeping Up With Friederike
June 11, 2013
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -
Every Tuesday this summer, we will hear from a different Lady Rebel as she catches up UNLVRebels.com readers with an account of how their summer is going, an update on their workouts and their goal for the upcoming season. This second installment is provided by senior center Friederike Moderegger.
A Day In the Life of Fredi
Tuesday, June 11th
This summer is very different from my usual summers. Normally I go home to Germany, however, I have decided to stay in Vegas this year. School has only been out for only three weeks now, and even though I miss my family, friends, and dog at home, thus far I do not regret my decision to stay. I am currently working two part-time jobs: one as a nanny and one as a Rebel Recruiter/New Student Orientation Leader.
In the mornings, I have the privilege of working for a great family with three children: a precious seven-month old baby boy named Lucas, and his two energetic big sisters Emmaline (3.5 years old) and Alexandra (6 years old). I read Cinderella at least twice a day and have now become an expert on drawing all of the Disney princesses. Being with them is a joy, and is great experience for me as I finish my Elementary Education degree. In the afternoons, I head over to campus to fulfill my role in the Office of Admissions. I really like this job because I get to share my Rebel Spirit with incoming freshmen and tell them why I chose to come to UNLV - it's a great feeling knowing I am playing a part in getting them excited about their upcoming career as a Rebel. Orientation days are exhausting, but I have a bunch of co-workers who are fun to work with and make the experience a blast.
Post-season workouts were fun, but challenging at the same time. Coach Collier always encourages me in individual workouts to expand my post-game with new moves in the block, which is something I am focusing on. (We'll keep it a secret right now how many 3's I knocked down in open gym.) Right now, I am alternating my cardio routines between swimming, hiking or going to the gym. I am excited to get together with my teammates again in July for summer workouts, especially so we can start to get Jazmyne Bartee and Diamond Major, our incoming freshmen, acclimated into our system. Everyone will be super competitive in open gym, I'll work on my new post moves (and my 3's) and do my part to help the team chemistry. I know next year will be a great year. Now that I'm thinking about it, I wish we would start playing games tomorrow.
Until the time comes, have a great summer everybody and I'll see you on the court soon!!
