Hey Bulldogs!

First of all, just wanted to say thank you so much for all the love and support and congratulations I have received over the past few days. It means so much!

So, for those of you who don't know, my name is Alex Sheedy and I am a member of your Fresno State women's basketball team, going into my junior year. I am also from Australia, which is the reason I am writing this blog for the next few weeks. I am about to go to China for two weeks to play for the Emerging Opals Australian Basketball Team.

Basically - The Opals are Australia's elite team, the women who represent us at the Olympics and are amazing basketballers on a global stage. I, along with 11 other young and talented women, have been selected in the "Emerging Opals" squad, which is pretty amazing and I'm honored to be selected to represent my country. (I would have been going to France before the World Championships a few years ago, but had to pull out because of injury! Worst timing, right?)

How did it happen? Well, one night my good friend messaged me saying, `Hey, can't wait to see you at camp tomorrow!' That was really confusing because I had no idea what she was talking about. So, I emailed the managers and asked what was going on, was I supposed to be going to a camp? Turns out it was just a miscommunication and I was invited from Sunday - Friday, but I got there late on Wednesday and only trained for two days. On the last day of camp they told us the teams that we had been selected in and I had made the Emerging Opals team and been selected as a reserve player for the World University Games Team as well.

So tomorrow morning (Saturday, June 15) I am flying out to China and we are going to be playing somewhere in the country in a four-nation tournament. We will be playing the USA World University Games (WUG) team, along with an emerging China team and Hungary's WUG team. It will be tough: the Chinese are very physical and fast, the USA is extremely talented, as you already know, and Hungary battles out every game, but it's going to be an amazing experience.

So far, I don't have a lot of information about where exactly we are going in China, but we will be there from 15-27 of June. But when I get some more information, I will write. It's a little funny because I feel like I have travelled so much, but really I have only ever been to Australia and America. This is going to be a new experience and an exciting new culture to explore.

Updates soon!
