Beth Burns Nominated for 2012 Woman of the Year Award

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State women's basketball head coach Beth Burns has been nominated as a finalist for San Diego Magazine's 2012 Woman of the Year award. The winner will be announced at the "Women Who Move the City Event" Sept. 18 at La Costa Resort and Spa. In 2011, Rady Children's Hospital CEO Kathleen Sellick won the award.
Burns is entering her 16th season as Aztecs head coach, which includes two separate tenures. Under Burns, SDSU has made seven NCAA tournament appearances, one trip to the Sweet Sixteen and won two regular season Mountain West Conference titles. After tying a school-record with 25 victories last season, Burns was named MW Coach of the Year for the second time in her career.
A native of Chatham, N.J., Burns coached the Aztecs from 1989-97 before becoming head coach at The Ohio State University from 1997-2002. She returned to SDSU in 2005, where she's been head coach ever since. Burns attended undergrad at Ohio Wesleyan University, where she also played on the basketball team from 1975-1979, before earning her Master's degree in physical education at Ohio State in 1981.
