San Diego State Ranks No. 25 in Lindy's Preseason Women's Basketball Poll

Sept. 21, 2012

San Diego State women's basketball, the defending Mountain West regular-season and tournament champions, is ranked No. 25 in Lindy's Sports College Basketball Preseason Top-25 poll.

The Aztecs return four starters and nine letterwinners off a conference championship team that finished with a 25-7 overall record (12-2 MW) and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The 2012 postseason appearance was SDSU's third in the last four years.

San Diego State is led by 2012 Mountain West Player of the Year and AP All-American Courtney Clements. The senior averaged 17.4 points and 5.3 rebounds, while starting all 32 games a season ago.

Backcourt teammate Chelsea Hopkins joined Clements in the starting lineup in every game in 2011-12 and averaged 10.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 6.5 assists in her first year at SDSU after transferring from Duke. At season's end, Hopkins was named MW Newcomer of the Year and was a unanimous first-team all-MW selection along with Clements.

The Aztecs will hit the hardwood for the first time on Nov. 6, when they play host to an exhibition vs. Cal Lutheran at 7 p.m. PT inside Viejas Arena. San Diego State's season opener is set for Nov. 10, at UCLA in a game slated for 7 p.m. PT.
