Radio And TV Coverage Announced For Lady Rebels

Nov. 2, 2012

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Fans of the UNLV women's basketball team will have more opportunities to follow the Lady Rebels this season, as the UNLV Athletics Department announced details for season-long radio coverage of the team. Nine home games will also be produced by UNLV TV and video streamed at UNLVRebels.com.

Adam Candee takes over the radio call for the Lady Rebels after the passing of long-time announcer Bob Blum in July at the age of 91. Blum had completed his 27th season as the Voice of the Lady Rebels, and Candee had served as an analyst on the broadcasts since the 2008-09 season. All 30 regular-season games and any postseason action will be carried on KSHP-1400 AM.

"Bob's voice is the true 'Voice of the Lady Rebels,' and it always will be," said Candee. "The four years I spent working with Bob were a blessing. I learned plenty, laughed often and loved him as everyone at UNLV did. It's my job to take care of what he built and to make it even better."

"Bob was always around the program, was a great supporter and would do anything for the Lady Rebels," said UNLV head coach Kathy Olivier. "We think about him all the time. Adam was like a son to Bob, he learned so much from him and we know he will do a great job and is excited and ready to keep alive what Bob started."

This is the first year that UNLV TV has done a full schedule of games with UNLV Athletics program, and it will start right from the beginning with the Lady Rebels, showing the first two games of the year, Nov. 9 against UC Santa Barbara, and Nov. 13 against Arizona. The student-run production will return to producing games once the conference season starts, with seven of eight Mountain West games to be produced by UNLV TV, with the eighth game already earlier announced as a CBS Sports Network production on Jan. 20. Fans looking to watch the games online will be able to access the webcast on UNLVRebels.com.

"When I heard they were planning on putting so many games on TV, my face just lit up," said Olivier. " It's great for our program and university. Any type of TV exposure is big for us, and we're excited that our fans and families will be able to watch if they are unable to attend the games. Our players are excited for this as well."

The Lady Rebels begin play next week with an exhibition contest against Dixie State on Monday, Nov. 5 at 7 pm in the Cox Pavilion. The season opener on Friday, Nov. 9, against UC Santa Barbara in the Thomas & Mack Center.

The Lady Rebels, under fifth-year head coach Kathy Olivier, bring back two starters from last year's squad that reached the postseason for the first time since 2006, while finishing second in the Mountain West at 10-4, and 22-10 overall.
