Mountain West Women's Basketball Weekly Release - November 8, 2012

Seven Mountain West women's basketball teams get the 2012-13 season started on Friday, Nov. 9. Fresno State begins on the road at No. 4/4 Stanford. Nevada, New Mexico, UNLV and Wyoming kick off the season with home games.

    • MW Welcomes Fresno State and Nevada ... Fresno State and Nevada officially joined the Mountain West on July 1. The Bulldogs finished the 2011-12 season with a 28-6 record. FS welcomes Raegan Pebley as its new head coach in 2012-13. Pebley spent the past nine seasons at Utah State, a program that joins the MW in 2013-14. The Wolf Pack, under the direction of fifth-year head coach Jane Albright, was 7-23 last season.

    • Ryun Williams Named CSU Head Coach ... Also new to the head coaching ranks in the Mountain West this season is Colorado State head coach Ryun Williams. Williams takes over the Rams program following head coaching stops at South Dakota (2008-12), Wayne State (1998-2008) and Sheridan College (1995-98).

    • Durbin named Senior CLASS Award Top 30 Candidate ... New Mexico senior Caroline Durbin has been named a candidate for the Senior CLASS award. The award is an acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School. It focuses on the total student-athlete experience and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. Durbin is one of thirty NCAA Division I women's basketball student-athletes to be nominated for this award and is UNM's first candidate since Amy Beggin in the 2009-10 season. She is the only player from the Mountain West represented among the nominees.

    • Injury Bug Has Hit ... Several key players in the Mountain West will be out for the season after suffering injuries in recent months. Boise State lost senior forward Kinzi Poteet and sophomore guard Keiahnna Engel to knee injuries, while UNLV senior guard Mia Bell continues to recover from off-season knee surgery.

    • Playing strong teams ... Fresno State gets the season started with a showdown on Friday, Nov. 9 at No. 4 Stanford. The Bulldogs are 6-20 in the series with Stanford.
