Cowgirl Basketball On The Road At The Pepperdine Thanksgiving Classic

The Wyoming Cowgirl Basketball team will be out on the road for the first time this season as they begin play at the Pepperdine Thanksgiving Basketball Classic in Malibu, Calif. They are scheduled to open up with the Seton Hall Pirates, on Friday, Nov. 23. The game is set for 2:00 p.m. Mountain Time. They will either play the host school Pepperdine Waves or the South Dakota Coyotes, on Saturday, Nov. 24. The games are set for 2:00 p.m. MT or 4:30 p.m. MT depending the outcome of Friday's games. Wyoming is 2-0 on the season after defeating the Denver Pioneers, 81-66, on Friday night. All five starters finished the game in double-figures led by sophomore Kayla Woodward. She finished with a season high 20 points and four rebounds in 34 minutes of play. Alison Gorrell followed with 15 points and five assists, while shooting 5-5 from the field. Kaitlyn Mileto and Ashley Sickles added 14 each while Chaundra Sewell chipped in ten. Sewell also recorded her first double-double of the season with a game high ten rebounds. The Cowgirls shot 29-49 (.592) from the field and 8-14 (.571) from beyond the arc.
The Cowgirls are led by sophomore Kayla Woodward who is averaging 17.0 points plus 3.5 rebounds per game. Chaundra Sewell follows with 16.0 points and a team high 8.5 rebounds. Four of five starters are currently averaging double-figures in scoring. As a team, they are shooting 60-11 (.545) from the field and 15-33 (.455) from beyond the arc.
Seton Hall comes into the game 2-2 overall on the season after suffering a 72-29 loss last time out against Michigan. They are led by Brittany Morris who is averaging a team high 14.8 points while bringing down 3.8 rebounds. They return three starters and seven letterwinners to a team that went 8-23 overall and 1-15 in the Big East Conference. This is the first ever meeting between the two teams. Seton Hall is coached by Anne Donovan who is in her third season with the program.
The Coyotes are 1-3 on the season and will play Pepperdine on Friday night. They are currently led by Polly Harrington who is averaging 14.0 points and 5.5 rebounds. They return three starters and eight letterwinners to a team that went 23-8 overall and 12-6 in the Summit League. This would be the fourth meeting between the two schools. South Dakota leads the series 2-1. The last time the two teams met was Dec. 5, 1985 as the Coyotes defeated the Cowgirls 75-61. USD is coached by Amy Williams who is in her first season at the helm.
Pepperdine is 1-2 so far this season and will play South Dakota on Friday night. The Waves are led by Robie Mayberry who is averaging 17.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest. She is followed by Shay Cooney-Williams who is adding 13.3 points and 5.3 rebounds. They return one starter and eight letterwinners to a team that went 14-15 overall and 8-8 in the West Coast Conference. This would be the eighth meeting between the two schools. Wyoming leads the series 4-3. The last time the two teams met was December 31, 1995 as the Waves defeated the Cowgirls 86-64, in Malibu. Pepperdine is coached by Julie Rousseau who is in her ninth season.
