Cowgirl Basketball Faces Tough Two-Game Road Trip

The Wyoming Cowgirl Basketball team will make one final road swing before taking off some days for the Holiday break. They will face the Bowling Green Falcons, on Sunday, Dec. 16 followed by the Ball State Cardinals, on Tuesday, Dec. 18. Sunday's game is set for a tip time of 11:00 a.m. MT while Tuesday's action will get underway at 5:00 p.m. MT. Live stats and audio can be found at www.gowyo.com.
Wyoming is 8-1 on the season after defeating Weber State, 77-62, on Friday night. Kayla Woodward finished her night with a team high 20 points plus seven rebounds. She was 8-16 from the field and 2-2 from the charity stripe. Kaitlyn Mileto followed with 18 points and four assists while Ashley Sickles added 14 points. Chaundra Sewell finished with a team high 11 rebounds. Wyoming shot 28-56 (.500) from the field and 14-19 (.727) from the free throw line. They also out rebounded Weber State 44-30.
Four of five starters are averaging double-figures led by Sewell. She is averaging 13.3 points and a league high 10.1 rebounds per game. Mileto and Woodward are both averaging 13.1 respectively, while Ashley Sickles is adding 12.9 points. As a team, the Cowgirls are shooting 223-489 (.456) from the field and 62-153 (.405) from beyond the arc. Both rank first in the league.
The Falcons enter the contest with a 6-3 overall record and are currently on a three game winning streak. They are led by Chrissy Steffen who is averaging a team high 11 points plus 4.3 rebounds. Daniel Havel leads the team in rebounding with 5.9 and is adding 8.2 points. They return four starters and nine letterwinners to a team that went 24-7 overall, 14-2 in the Mid-American Conference and made it to the First Round of the NCAA Tournament a season ago.
This will be only the second meeting between the two schools. The last time the two teams met was Dec. 29, 2011 as the Falcons defeated the Cowgirls, 60-53, in Laramie. BGSU is coached by Jennifer Roos who is in her first season as the head coach.
Ball State comes into the week with a 3-7 overall record and will face Illinois State on Sunday before taking on the Cowgirls. The Cardinals are led by Nathalie Fontaine who is scoring a team high 12.9 points plus bringing down 6.5 rebounds. Katie Murphy leads the way with 6.8 rebounds while adding 9.3 points They return four starters and five letterwinners to a team that went 9-21 overall and 4-12 in the Mid-American Conference a season ago. This will be the first meeting between the two schools. Ball State is coached by Brady Sallee who is in his first season with the program.
