PEORIA, Ariz. – The Colorado State women’s golf program sits alone in 11th place after two rounds at the Westbrook Spring Invitational, after battling windy conditions and temperatures that dipped into the 40s during Sunday’s opening rounds.

After tallying the highest team score in Round 1 (316), the Rams bounced back in a big way during the day’s second 18, carding the fourth-lowest score of the round at 12-over 300 to move up two spots heading into Monday’s final round.

“I feel like we are making progress,” said Head Coach Susan Jennings. “The team is really positive and that’s something that we’ve been working hard on. They are doing a good job of (staying positive) and that has helped us to battle back. We need to go out and do that again tomorrow.”

Emily Roering paced the Rams on Sunday, carding a two-round total of 152 (+8).  The junior was six-over through Round 1, and put together a really strong second round, sitting at 1-under with two holes to play before a late-round slip that left her with a double-bogey and a bogey on the last two holes of the day.

Classmate Christina Spinzig also bounced back from a slow start to card a 1-over 73 on her second round of the day, tying for her lowest round of the season. Spinzig opened the day with an 80, and sits one stroke off Roering’s pace after jumping from 57th to a tie for 29th.

Junior Betsy Kelly and senior Cecilie Krefting are tied for 45th, both shooting rounds of 79 (+7) and 77 (+5). Krefting’s 75 also tied her single-round season best.

Redshirt freshman Mikayla Tatman sits just outside the top-50, tying for 52nd. Tatman, like the rest of the Rams, was much improved in the second round, shaving five strokes off her opening round 81 to sit at 13 over par.

Rams’ sophomore Jessa LaBarbera, competing as an individual, matched Roering’s 36-hole score to sit in a tie for 22nd, third amongst individual competitors. LaBarbera got off to a hot start, shooting an opening round of 74 (+2), but cooled in the afternoon with a 6-over 78.

The Rams return to the links tomorrow with a top-10 finish in their sights. Play begins at 9 a.m. MT with a shotgun start. Live scoring is available at www.GolfStat.com.
