PEORIA, Ariz. – The Colorado State women’s golf team finished 11th at the Westbrook Spring Invitational at Westbrook Golf Club on Monday. The Rams, who entered the day in 12th, were only able to get past UTEP on the final day.

The Rams were led by Sophomore Betsy Kelly, who finished the tournament tied for 21st with a three-round score of 75-72-74=221 (+5). Kelly showed some flashes of brilliance but was unable to get her entire game on track.

“Betsy played well today but just couldn’t get the putts to fall,” said Head Coach Angie Collier.

Brianna Espinoza carded a 72-75-76=223 (+7) and finished tied for 33rd. Sarah Roering posted a 77-74-76=227 (+11). Cecilie Krefting shot a 76-77-76=229 (+13). Haley King finished with an 80-84-80=244 (+28).

Illinois captured the team title combining for a 288-282-283=853 (-11). Texas Tech finished second with an 856 (-8) and Washington State rounded out the top three with an 866 (+2).

Nora Lucas of Illinois took home the individual title with a 70-67-68=205 (-11). Teammates Kimberly Kaufman and Gabriella Dominguez of Texas Tech finished two-strokes behind Lucas at 207 (-9).

Collier was expecting more from her team but is looking forward to the next competition.

“It was a frustrating tournament and we just couldn’t get anything going,” said Collier. “We have a week to prepare for the next trip and we are going to work hard and be ready for San Jose.”

The Rams will head to San Jose, Calif., for the Julie Inkster Spartan Invitational on March 5th.
