Women's golf recap: CSU finishes MountainView Collegiate in 15th

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Colorado State women's golf team finished 15th at the MountainView Collegiate despite a determined effort in the final round. The Rams faced a team-wide illness on the first day but came out fighting in Saturday's final round at MountainView Golf Club.
"Today was a much improved day for our team and we finally played like we know how," said Head Coach Angie Collier. "It was a much needed confidence builder for the team and coaches."
Senior Brianna Espinoza tied her season-best score of 71 (-1) to lead CSU and tie for 13th. Her three-round total of 218 (+2) was also a season best. Collier was impressed with Espinoza's grit.
"Extremely proud of Bri this week," she said. "She has been under the weather and still finished 13th."
Betsy Kelly, like Espinoza, was sick on Friday but shot a 72 (E) on Saturday to finish tied for 58th at 230 (+14). Cecilie Krefting posted a season-best 74 in the final round and finished tied with Kelly for 58th at 230 (+14). Sarah Roering also had a strong third round and finished with a 238 (+22).
CSU's Christina Spinzig played as an individual and posted her best three-round score and single-round score of the season. She finished second on the team and tied for 50th with a 77-77-74--228 (+12).
Texas Tech (858) captured the team championship by 7 strokes over Iowa State (865) and 13 strokes over third place Ohio State (871).
Jennifer Brumbaugh (-7) of San Jose State beat L auren Weaver (-7) of Northwestern in a playoff to earn the top spot. Gabriella Dominquez (-6) of Texas Tech took third followed by Kimberly Coffman of Texas Tech and Kendal Price of Ohio State in fourth at 5 under.
The Rams next competition will be the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic in Chandler, Ariz., on April 9th.
