Rebels Finish Fifth In San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's golf team finished fifth at The SDSU Farms Invitational, which was played at The Farms Golf Club (par 72, 6,202 yards). The Rebels turned in a final round score of 26-over-par 314 on Tuesday and finished 50-over 914 for the tournament.

USC took home the tournament championship after posting an even-par final round of 288. The Trojans finished the tournament 11-over 875, 21 strokes ahead of runner-up Arizona. The Wildcats turned in a final round 4-over 292 to finish the tournament 32-over 896. Pepperdine finished third after a final round 12-over 300 to finish 40-over 904 for the tournament.

USC’s Sophia Popov took home medalist honors, despite shooting a final round 2-over 74. She finished the tournament 1-over 217 (74-69-74) one stroke ahead of Arizona’s Manon Gidali who finished 2-over 218 (72-76-70). USC’s Annie Park finished third at 3-over 219 (77-71-71). 

UNLV sophomore Dana Finkelstein came into the final round tied for ninth place, but finished the tournament tied for eighth after a final round 2-over 74 to finish 7-over 223 (76-73-74) for the tournament. It is Finkelstein’s sixth top-ten finish of her career.

Other Rebels competing: sophomore Mayko Chwen Wang finished 22nd at 13-over 229 (74-76-79), juniors Demi Mak (77-74-80) and Charlotte Brooks (75-75-81) tied for 26th at 15-over 231 and sophomore Marguerite Swearingen finished tied for 39th at 20-over 236 (77-78-81). Katerina Prorokova competed as an individual and is tied for 74th at 41-over 257 (85-82-90).

The tournament featured 15 teams and 82 individuals.

The Rebels will return to the links on April 12 as the team will travel to Tempe, Ariz. to take part in the three-day PING/ASU Invitational. Live stats will be provided courtesy of Golfstat on UNLVRebels.com.
