RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – The Colorado State women’s golf team closed the second round of action on Friday at the 2013 Mountain West Women's Golf Championship on the Dinah Shore Tournament Course at the Mission Hills Country Club. The team slid into sixth place as junior Betsy Kelly and sophomore Jessa LaBarbera jumped up the individual standings to join Emily Roering in the top-20.
“The golf course is playing a little long for our team,” said Head Coach Susan Jennings of the par-72 6,-324-yard layout. “But Jessa and Betsy both chipped better today, and Jessa’s putting improved a lot, which allowed them to score better.”
LaBarbera and Kelly each tallied scores of 77 (+5), to shave four and three strokes, respectively from their Round 1 scores. LaBarbera jumped from a tie for 23rd into a tie for 20th, while Kelly ascended two spots into a tie for 17th.
Junior Emily Roering, who closed Thursday’s first round as the tournament leader, slid into a tie for 11th after firing a 10-over 82 in Round 2.
“Emily played well for 15 holes, but struggled on three holes” said Jennings of Roering’s double bogeys on holes 13 and 14, and her nine on the par-5 18th. “She’s still in 11th with a shot at a top-10 finish with a good round tomorrow.”
Redshirt Freshman Mikayla Tatman and junior Christina Spingizig each matched Roering’s 82 during the second round. Tatman is tied for 31st with a two-round score of 164 (+20), one stroke ahead of Spinzig in a tie for 33rd.
The final round of the 54-hole MW Championship tournament begins tomorrow with tee times starting at 8:30 a.m. MT. Live, hole-by-hole scoring is available at www.GolfStat.com.
