Rebels Tie For 15th At NCAA Regional

STANFORD, Calif. ( - The UNLV women's golf team shot an final-round 9-over-par 293 on Saturday and finish tied for 15th place at the 2013 NCAA West Regional, which was being played at the Stanford Golf Course (par 71, 6,267 yards). The Rebels finished 47-over 899 (310-296-293) in the tournament.

“The team played well in the final round of the season,” head coach Amy Bush said. “Playing at a regional is always a great learning experience. We are looking forward to taking that experience and focusing on next season as we return the same team.”

Southern California took home the team title after carding a 4-under 280 final round score. The Trojans finished 7-over 859 (290-286-280). Purdue finished second, one stroke back at 8-over 860 (291-286-283). Vanderbilt finished third at 7-over, South Carolina finished fourth at 22-over and Stanford rounds out the top five at 23-over.

USC’s Annie Park and Purdue’s Paula Reto finished tied for first at 7-under for the tournament. USC’s Kyung Kim and Vanderbilt’s Kendall Martindale finished tied for third at 3-under.

UNLV sophomore Dana Finkelstein finished tied for 10th after posting a 1-under final round score. The Mountain West Golfer of the Year was 3-over 216 (75-71-70) in the tournament.

Other Rebel players: junior Demi Mak tied for 22nd at 6-over 219 (73-74-72), sophomore Marguerite Swearingen tied for 85th at 19-over 232 (82-76-74), sophomore Mayko Chwen Wang tied for 96th at 21-over 234 (82-75-77), and junior Katerina Prorokova finished 107th at 25-over 238 (80-79-79). 

The NCAA West Regional featured 24 teams and 126 individuals. The Rebels made their 11th straight appearance at a regional in just their 12th season as a program.
