Rebels Finish 11th At NCAA West Regional

ERIE, Colo. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's golf team shot a final-round 5-over-par 293 on Saturday and finished in 11th place at the 2012 NCAA West Regional, which was played at the Colorado National Golf Course (par 72, 6,575 yards).

UCLA was 1-under during the final round, while LSU shot 4-over, but both finished atop the team leaderboard after 54 holes at 9-over 873. Pepperdine finished third at 11-over, while Colorado was fourth at 13-over and Baylor and Stanford both tied for fifth at 15-over. North Carolina was seventh at 16-over and Oklahoma (26-over) claimed the eighth and final spot to move on to the national finals at Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn., May 22-25.

North Carolina's Catherine O'Donnell claimed individual medalist honors at 7-under 209 after a final-round 2-under 70. LSU's Austin Ernst finished second at 6-under. Texas Tech's Kimberly Kaufman and Gabriella Dominguez finished tied for eighth and tied for 14th, respectively, and are the two individuals not on advancing teams to move on to the national finals. Dominguez won a one-hole playoff with UC Davis' Amy Simanton.

UNLV was led by freshman Dana Finkelstein, who tied for 16th at 4-over 220 after a final-round even-par 72. Other Rebel players: senior Bethany Calvo tied for 56th at 11-over 227 after a final-round 1-over 73, freshman Marguerite Swearingen tied for 72nd at 13-over 229 after a final-round 6-over 78, freshman Mayko Chwen tied for 82nd at 14-over 230 after a final-round 2-over 74 and sophomore Katerina Prorokova tied for 85th at 15-over 231 after a final-round 2-over 74.

The NCAA West Regional featured 24 teams and 126 individuals. The Rebels made their 10th straight appearance at a regional in just their 11th season as a program.
