Rebels Lead After First Day In Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's golf team shot 1-over 293 during the first round and 3-over 295 during the second round on Monday for a 36-hole total of 4-over 588 and leads the field by two shots at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational, which is being played at the UNM Championship Course (par 72, 6,192 yards).
Ohio State is second at 6-over, followed by Iowa State in third at 7-over, Baylor in fourth at 8-over and Northwestern rounds out the top five at 10-over. Colorado's Jennifer Coleman leads all individuals at 6-under 140 (70-70), two shots ahead of Pepperdine's Grace Na, who is at 4-under in second place.
UNLV is led by sophomore Mayko Chwen Wang, who is tied for fourth at 2-under 144, four shots off the lead. She shot a career-low 5-under 68 during the first round, which marked her first college round under 70. During the first 18 holes, Chwen Wang made birdies on holes No. 1, 6, 13, 17 and 18, while making pars on the rest. She shot 3-over 76 during the second round.
"It was a great day for our team," UNLV head coach Amy Bush said. "We played very well as a group. Individually, Mayko shot a career-low round, which was great to see. She worked very hard over the summer, and all the work she put in, showed today. We are looking forward to getting back out on the course tomorrow."
Rebel junior Charlotte Brooks is in seventh place at 1-under 145 after rounds of 73 and 72. Other Rebels: sophomore Dana Finkelstein is tied for 17th at 2-over 148 (76-72), junior Demi Mak is tied for 36th at 5-over 151 (76-75), freshman Anna-Lena Kramer, who is competing as an individual, is tied for 49th at 8-over 154 (78-76) and sophomore Marguerite Swearingen is tied for 60th at 10-over 156 (77-79).
