ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Colorado State women’s golf team had a disappointing start to open play on Monday at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational and the team sits in 15th place after Day 1 of competition at the UNM Championship Course.

“It was a tough day for us,” said interim head coach Susan Jennings.  “We just really struggled in our short game and around the green.”

But Jennings is optimistic that the Rams will regroup for Tuesday’s final round.

“We’re going to sleep on it tonight, and I’m going to get with the team tomorrow and talk about what we need to do to close out this tournament,” added Jennings.  “We’ve made adjustments, and now we just need to execute.”

Redshirt freshman Mikayla Tatman is the Rams’ leader through 36 holes.  Tatman carded two rounds of 78 to sit in a tie for 60th.

Juniors Betsy Kelly and Christina Spinzig are one stroke off Tatman’s pace in a tie for 66th.  Both Spinzig and Kelly notched identical scores of 79 in Round 1 and 78 in Round 2.

Junior Emily Roering closed out the scoring for the Rams on Day 1 with scores of 79 and 81.  She sits in a tie for 75th, ahead of younger sister Sarah Roering (82-88—170) who is tied for 90th entering the final round.

Sophomore Jessa LaBarbera, playing as an individual, opened with an 83 in Round 1, but improved by four strokes in Round 2 to sit in a tie for 81st.
