Fresno, Calif. --The Fresno State women's golf team teed off its last tournament of the fall season on Sunday, Oct. 21 in Las Vegas, Nev. After playing in one, 18 hole round, the Bulldogs sit in 12th place out of 18 teams.

The 'Dogs shot +23 over par and finished day one of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown with a total score of 311.

"We played in pretty strong winds all day long," head coach Angie Cates-Moore said. "It was about a two-club wind today and I think the team handled themselves pretty well out there. The wind is supposed to be even stronger tomorrow so we'll make the adjustments that we need too as far as club selection and moving our targets. I think they'll handle themselves well."

Along with a tough field of competition, the Bulldogs had the late wave tee times. Due to the late wave tee times the 'Dogs played in strong winds, which rose to 20 mph.

The average score on the field today was 77.9.

Freshman Hannah Sodersten finished in the top 15 with a tie for 13th place out of 96 players. Sodersten shot two over par for a score of 74. Sodersten made four birdies on holes four, six, ten and fourteen.

"Hannah played good today," Cates-Moore said. "74 is a good score with strong winds and she is in the top fifteen of a good field. She played pretty steady today and we are happy about that."

Bulldogs Shaylee Yano and Madchen Ly are both tied for 49th place with a six over par 78. Ly made birdies on holes six and thirteen and Yano made birdies on holes four and fourteen.

"The team played against a good field of teams and that shows that course played tough," Cates-Moore said.

The Bulldogs continue day two of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown on Monday, Oct. 22. Round two of the three-day tournament will tee off at 7:30 a.m. Follow the 'Dogs on www.golfstat.com.
