Lobos Begin Plat at the Longhorn Invitational

The University of New Mexico women's golf team began play today at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas. The Lobos are in last place in the star-studded 15-team field after shooting a 313 (+25) at the University of Texas Golf Club (par 72, 6,344 yards).

Tenth-ranked Alabama (284) holds a three-shot lead over No. 19 Arkansas (287) after the first round. The field features 10 teams ranked in the top-40 of the most recent Golfweek national poll.

Junior Manon De Roey led UNM with a 75. A double bogey on the par-4 18th proved costly for the Lobos' top golfer. UNM began play at No. 10.

Juniors Sofia Hoglund and Sammi Stevens both came in at 76. Hoglund was 1 over through 14, but dropped three shots with a triple bogey 7 at the par 4 6th hole. Stevens had five bogeys and a birdie.

Senior Beth Buchner struggled to an 86.

Tulsa's Shu-Yin Liu shot a 4-under 68 and has a one-shot advantage over three golfers entering Monday's second round.
