Lobos 14th at Longhorn Invitational

The University of New Mexico women's golf team finished in 14th place at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas. A day after shooting one of their best rounds of the season to move into a tie for 12th, the Lobos slumped to a 311 today for a 54-hole total of 916 (313-292-311).
The 15-team field that competed at the University of Texas Golf Club (par 72, 6,344 yards) featured 10 teams ranked in the top-40 of the most recent Golfweek national poll.
In a highly-competitive battle between three nationally-ranked teams from the Southeastern Conference, No. 4 Florida beat 10th-ranked Alabama by virtue of a tiebreaker. The Gators and Crimson Tide tied at 863, one stroke ahead of No. 19 Arkansas. Florida was declared the winner after comparing the final round score of each teams' fifth player.
Junior Sammi Stevens led the Lobos at 221 (76-70-75), tying for 21st.
Junior Manon De Roey tied for 31st at 223 (75-72-76). She was stung today by a triple bogey on the par-4 17th.
Junior Sofia Hoglund finished at 233 (76-76-81) to tie for 64th.
Senior Beth Buchner had a rocky finish that led to a 78 today and a final total of 238 (86-74-78). She was even through 11 holes, but made two bogeys and a pair of double bogeys to close the round. Buchner tied for 72nd.
Florida's Camilla Hedberg beat Jennifer Kirby from Alabama in a playoff to capture the individual title. The pair tied at 8-under 208 after 54 holes.
The Lobos have completed their fall season. The next competition is Feb. 16-17, 2013, at the Peg Barnard Invitational in Stanford, Calif.
