Rebels Open Spring Season In California

PLEASANTON, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women’s golf team will open its spring season this week, Monday, February 25-Tuesday, February 26 at the Cal Classic.

The first year, 36-hole event will take place at the par-72, 6,203-yard Ruby Hill Golf Course with live scoring available at Golf Stat.

The Rebels will play one round each day and the tournament will start at 9:00 a.m. on Monday and will have a shotgun start on Tuesday that is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m.

Competing for the Rebels will be sophomores Dana Finkelstein and Mayko Chwen Wang, juniors Demi Mak and Charlotte Brooks and sophomore Marguerite Swearingen.

The Rebels will be part of an 11-team field that includes No. 17 Arizona State, California, Coastal Carolina, Fresno State, Oregon State, San Diego State, San Jose State, No. 8 Stanford, No. 15 UC Davis and USF.

UNLV has had three top-five finishes in the fall. The Rebels opened the year finishing third at the Colonel Bill Wollenberg’s Ptarmigan Ram Classic in Fort Collins, Colo. They tied for second at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. and finished third in their own Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. Finkelstein has paced the team, averaging a score of 74.42 over the four tournaments and has recorded one top-five finish (fifth in Las Vegas).  Finkelstein was also named the Mountain West’s Golfer of the Month in October.
