Rebels Sit Sixth After First Day

PLEASANTON, Calif. ( - The UNLV women's golf team is tied for sixth place after the first day of the Cal Classic, which is being played at the Ruby Hill Golf Course (par 72, 6,203 yards) in Pleasanton, Calif. The Rebels turned in a score of 14-over-par 302 on Monday.

Arizona State leads the field at 8-over 296. Stanford and UC Davis are tied for second at 10-over 298 and San Diego State and Coastal Carolina round out the top five. The Rebels sit tied for sixth with host California.

Arizona State's Noemi Jimenez leads all individuals at 4-under 68, three shots ahead of a three-way tie for second between Arizona State's Laura Blanco, UC Davis's Demi Runas and San Diego State's Paige Spiranic at 1-under 71.

Junior Charlotte Brooks and sophomore Dana Finkelstein lead UNLV and are tied for 10th at 2-over 74.

Other Rebels competing: sophomore Mayko Chwen Wang is tied for 17th at 4-over 76, junior Demi Mak is tied for 28th at 6-over 78 and sophomore Marguerite Swearingen is tied for 55th at 10-over 82.

The tournament features 11 teams and 60 individuals. Tuesday's second and final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. PT. Live scoring is available off a link at, courtesy of Golfstat.
