Women's Golf Opens Two-Day Bruin Wave Invite Monday

The San Diego State women's golf team will take part in the Bruin Wave Invitational for the third consecutive season at the El Caballero Country Club in Tarzana, Calif., March 5-6. The Aztecs, who are ranked 42nd nationally by golfstat.com, are among a field of 15 schools competing in 54 holes with two rounds on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday.
SDSU will be joined on the par-72, 6,131-yard course by fellow Mountain West members New Mexico and UNLV, as well as five top-50 ranked squads in No. 1 UCLA, No. 8 Oklahoma State, No. 22 Pepperdine, No. 44 Stanford and No. 49 Oregon State.
The tournament had previously been contested at the Robinson Ranch Golf Course in Santa Clarita, Calif., the first two seasons with the Bruins capturing both the team and individual titles a year ago and Southern California claiming the inaugural title in 2010. San Diego State finished an impressive fifth last season with three golfers, Gina Clark, Malin Enarsson and Christine Wong, all ending up in the top 25. The Aztecs were 12th at the 2010 Bruin Wave Invite led by Enarsson's 25th-place performance.
Day one will feature a shotgun start at 8 a.m. PT, while the final round is comprised of tee times from the No. 1 and No. 10 as early as 7:30 a.m. Both days feature live results on golfstat.com, while daily recaps will also be available on goaztecs.com.
The five Aztec golfers, under head coach Leslie Spaulding, whose scores can count toward the team total are senior Malin Enarsson (Gothenburg, Sweden), juniors Gina Clark (Murrieta, Calif.), Alessia Knight (Bologna, Italy) and Christine Wong (Richmond, B.C.) and freshman Amy Alston (Mission Viejo, Calif.). Redshirt freshman Kristina Lynn (Carlsbad, Calif.) will also be making her collegiate debut, competing as an individual.
UNLV Spring Invite Wrap-Up
San Diego State finished third out of 11 teams at the UNLV Spring Invitational at the at the par-72, 6,272-yard Cascata Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev., Feb. 20-21. The Aztecs carded a 54-hole total of 41-over 905, edging fellow conference member New Mexico by four strokes. Malin Enarsson was the team's top player with a 6-over 222 to tie for fifth place.
