TCU Women's Golf Heads To LSU Tiger Golf Classic

March 8, 2012

FORT WORTH, Texas -- The No. 32 TCU women's golf team will begin play Friday at the LSU Tiger Golf Classic in Baton Rouge, La.

The three day, 54-hole tournament will be held at the par 72, 6,186-yard University Club course. Live scoring of each round is available at TCU's tee times Friday begin at 10:10 a.m.

This weekend will mark the fourth consecutive year the Horned Frogs have competed at the LSU Tiger Golf Classic. TCU won the event the first two years it was played in 1982 and 1983. The Horned Frogs were also second in 2010 before finishing 12th last year, when Brooke Beeler was TCU's top performer with an 11-over-par 227 to tie for 26th.

In addition to TCU and host LSU, the other schools in the LSU Tiger Golf Classic will be College of Charleston, Kentucky, Louisiana-Monroe, Louisville, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Notre Dame, Purdue, Tennessee, UNC Wilmington, Vanderbilt and Virginia. The 14-team field features a trio of top-10 ranked programs (No. 5 Vanderbilt, No. 7 North Carolina, No. 8 LSU) with six teams in the top 30.

The Horned Frogs are coming off a seventh-place finish at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C. It was the sixth top-10 result, including a Central District Invitational title, in seven tournaments for TCU this season. Beeler tied for fourth overall with an even-par 142, while Sanna Nuutinen's 152 placed her in a deadlock for 30th.

Beeler is third in the Mountain West with a 74.4 stroke average on the year. Nuutinen's 75.0 mark places sixth, and freshman April McCoy is 12th at 75.9. TCU is the only school in the MW with three golfers in the top 12 in stroke average.

In addition to Beeler, Nuutinen and McCoy, TCU's lineup this weekend will include freshman Alexandra Bonetti and junior Katy Cardno. Bonetti has played in all seven tournaments this season, recording a 76.5 stroke average, while Cardno will be seeing her first action of the year.

Beeler and Nuutinen lead TCU with four top-20 finishes. Beeler has twice placed in a tie for fourth, while Nuutinen also has two top-10 results on the season.
