Beeler Third At LSU Tiger Golf Classic

March 9, 2012

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Brooke Beeler's even-par 72 has her tied for third individually, while TCU is sixth after Friday's opening round of the LSU Tiger Golf Classic.

The tournament was delayed two hours due to inclement weather.

Beeler carded her fifth straight round of par or better. She birdied three of her opening nine holes. The senior from Butler, Ill., is in a four-way tie for third, just two shots off the pace set by Vanderbilt's Marina Alex, who carded a 2-under 70.

TCU's 306 is 11 strokes behind No. 8 LSU's tourney-leading 295. The Horned Frogs trail No. 7 North Carolina, who sits in third place, by only five shots. The top-nine schools in the team standings are all ranked in the national top 40 by Golfstat.

With freshman Alexandra Bonetti in a tie for 13th after a 75 and sophomore Sanna Nuutinen in a deadlock for 17th with a 76, TCU has three individuals in the top 20.

Bonetti birdied her second hole of the day and shot par on 13 holes. Nuutinen birdied her first hole en route to two birdies.

April McCoy birdied her first two holes for TCU.
