Women's Golf's Battle At RB Inn Starts Sunday

SAN DIEGO - The 41st-ranked San Diego State women's golf team plays host to its lone tournament of the season, when the Aztecs welcome 15 of the top schools in the nation for the second annual The Battle at Rancho Bernardo Inn, March 18-20. The 54-hole event will feature one round each day at the par-72, 6,267-yard Championship Golf Course at the Rancho Bernardo Inn Resort & Spa.
The entire field is among the top-69 ranked squads in the nation, headlined by No. 3 Southern Cal, No. 6 Arizona State, No. 12 Texas A&M, No. 15 Arizona, No. 18 Washington and No. 19 California. SDSU will also be joined by fellow MW members No. 47 New Mexico and No. 54 UNLV, while No. 22 Pepperdine, No. 28 Texas, No. 34 Denver, No. 39 Tulane, No. 62 Miami, No. 63 Coastal Carolina and No. 69 Long Beach State round out the list of participants.
Aztec first-year head coach Leslie Spalding will play her entire roster this week with senior Malin Enarsson (Gothernburg, Sweden), juniors Gina Clark (Murrieta, Calif.), Alessia Knight (Bologna, Italy) and Christine Wong (Richmond, B.C.) and freshman Amy Alston (Mission Viejo, Calif.) composing the starting five. Sophomore Rebecca Schneider (Cave Creek, Ariz.) and redshirt freshman Kristina Lynn (Carlsbad, Calif.) will both compete as individuals in the 90-player field.
Last year's first-ever The Battle at Rancho Bernardo Inn had then defending national champion Purdue claiming both the team (879 (+15)) and the individual (Laura Gonzalez (209 (-7)) titles.
This week, squads will tee off the first two days from the No. 1 and No. 10 holes in nine-minute intervals beginning as early as 8 a.m. PDT. The final round gets underway at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Live scoring will be available on goaztecs.com, as well as golfstat.com.
