New Mexico's Sammi Stevens Named Mountain West Women's Golfer of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - New Mexico junior Sammi Stevens has been selected Mountain West Women's Golfer of the Week for tournaments played March 12 - 17.
Stevens registered the lowest 54-hole total of her career, tying for third place out of 94 golfers at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, held in Honolulu, Hawaii, on March 12 - 13. The Hereford, Texas, native carded a 1-over-par 217 (71-73-73) on the par 72, 6,099-yard Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course. Stevens recorded 12 birdies across the 54-hole event, including five birdies in the each of the final two rounds. Her third-place tie marked Steven's second top-10 finish of the spring.
As a team, New Mexico placed seventh among the field of 16 squads with a combined score of 57-over 921 (298-308-315).
Through 20 rounds, Stevens leads New Mexico and ranks second in the Mountain West with a 74.60 stroke average. This marks the first career MW Golfer of the Week award for Stevens.
