March 30, 2012

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Brooke Beeler's even-par 71 helped TCU into 10th place after Friday's opening round of the PING/ASU Invitational.

Nine of the nation's top-25 programs, including five in the top 10, are in the 17-team field. The 39th-ranked Horned Frogs carded an 8-over 292.

Beeler, ranked 79th nationally, has now shot par or better in six of her last eight rounds. The senior from Butler, Ill., recorded three birdies in a seven-hole stretch. She is tied for 13th individually and just four shots off the pace of 67 set by UNLV's Bethany Calvo and Arizona State's Justine Lee.

TCU freshman April McCoy's 1-over 72 has her tied for 22nd. The Carrollton, Texas, native totaled three birdies, including back-to-back on the fourth and fifth holes.

Alexandra Bonetti and Rachel Raastad posted a 74 and 75, respectively, for the Horned Frogs. Bonetti recorded consecutive birdies on holes 14 and 15.

Fifth-ranked and host Arizona State sits atop the leaderboard after a 4-under 280, four strokes ahead of No. 1 UCLA and No. 39 Stanford.
