'Dogs Host Fresno State Lexus Classic

FRESNO, Calif.-- The Fresno State women's golf team will host its 9th Annual Fresno State Lexus Classic at Copper River Country Club in Fresno, Calif. on April 15-16.
"We always look forward to the Lexus Classic and hosting a great tournament," head coach Angie Cates-Moore said. "It's the one time a year that our family and friends can watch us compete here at home."
The Bulldogs face a 15-team field including Mountain West foes Colorado State, New Mexico, Wyoming and Nevada.
According to GolfStat, the Bulldogs currently rank 84th and will compete against 37th-ranked UNLV, 56th-ranked San Jose State, and 63rd-ranked Tulsa.
Sophomore and Clovis, Calif. native Madchen Ly leads the Bulldogs as they prepare to capture a Fresno State Lexus Classic title.
Ly recently received MW women's golfer of the week honors following her performance at the Anuenue Spring Break Classic in Kapalua, Hawai'i.
Ly tied for 12th place out of 90 golfers and carded a season-best even-par 216 (74-72-70) on the par-72, 6,036-yard Bay Course. Ly recorded 12 birdies across the tournament and her final round of 70 matched her season low. Her 12th- place tie marked the sophomore's second top-15 finish of the year.
Ly ranks third in the Mountain West with a 75.41 stroke average.
Also leading the Bulldogs is senior Shaylee Yano who will compete in her final Fresno State Lexus Classic. Yano ranks in the top-20 of the MW and holds a 77.55 stroke average.
The lone freshman and Fresno, Calif. native, Hannah Sodersten holds the third spot in the Bulldog lineup. Sodersten ranks third among freshmen and 10th in the MW with a 76.05 stoke average. In her first season as a Bulldog, Sodersten has finished in the top-25 of four tournaments including her season-best tie for 5th place finish at the Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate.
Last year, CSU Fullerton took the crown at 29-over par, 893. San Jose State's Madeleine Ziegert took the individual title at one-under par, 215. The Bulldogs finished in two-way tie for third place with Nevada at 46-over par, 310.
"We would love to see everyone out at Copper on Monday and Tuesday," Cates-Moore said.
The Bulldogs tee off their final tournament of the 2012-13 season at the 6,212-yard, par-72 Copper River Country Club before they head to the MW Championship in Rancho Mirage, Calif. on April 25-27. The Fresno State Lexus Classic will swing into action with a shotgun start on Monday, April 15 at 8 a.m. and tee times beginning at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16.
