New Mexico's Sammi Stevens Named Mountain West Women's Golfer of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - New Mexico junior Sammi Stevens has been selected Mountain West Women's Golfer of the Week for tournaments played April 12 - 16.
Stevens placed third out of 78 golfers at the Fresno State Lexus Classic Diego held in Fresno, Calif., April 15 - 16. The Hereford, Texas, native carded a 2-over-par 218 (73-69-76) on the par 72, 6,212-yard course at Copper River Country Club. Stevens recorded 10 birdies across the tournament, including six in the second round, en route to tying her lowest finish as a Lobo. Her second-round 69 ties a career best, after previously notching a 69 as a freshman in the second round of the 2011 Mountain West Championship. Stevens' total score of 218 ties for the second-lowest 54-hole total of her career and marked her second top-three finish in the past three tournaments. The junior has finished in the top 10 in three of New Mexico's five spring outings.
As a team, UNM placed ninth among the field of 15 squads with a combined score of 53-over 917 (312-301-304).
Through 26 rounds, Stevens leads New Mexico and ranks second in the Mountain West with a 74.62 stroke average. This marks the second MW Golfer of the Week award of Stevens' career.
