Women's golf preview: CSU travels to Arizona for Mountain West Championship

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Colorado State women’s golf team will travel to Litchfield Park, Ariz., on Friday to compete in the 2012 Mountain West Women’s Golf Championship at Wigwam Resort Gold Course. The Rams are confident heading into the conference championship after posting their best finish of the season at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic last week.
Wigwam Resort Gold Course is a par-72 that will play at 6,208 yards. The tournament will be played over three days and consist of 18 holes per day for a total of 54 holes. Competition will begin each day at 8 a.m. MST.
The Rams are in Group 1 with Boise State. Group 2 will be New Mexico and UNLV. Group 3 is Wyoming, San Diego State and TCU.
Rams at the Mountain West Championship...
Last year the Rams finished sixth at the Mountain West Championship with a young team. This year’s team hopes to use its experience to move up on the leaderboard. Espinoza, Kelly, Roering and Krefting are all returning.
Kelly led the Rams last year and finished second after posting a 3-under 213 for the tournament. Kelly shot a 2-under 70 to close out the tournament. Espinoza finished tied for 15th with a 222 (+6). Roering posted a 229 (+13) and Krefting shot a 238 (+22).
Wyoming Cowgirl Classic...
The Rams are coming off a second-place finish last week at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic. This marks the team’s best finish of the season. Espinoza led the team and walked away with the tournament championship, winning by five strokes.
Espinoza 208 (-8) set a tournament record, beating the previous record by five strokes. Spinzig tied for 23rd with a 226 (+10). Krefting shot a 229 (+13). Kelly posted a 231 (+15). Jessa LaBarbera shot a 237 (+21) and Roering posted a 241 (+25).
